York in National Spotlight for Active Travel Next Week
Fri, 06/27/2025 - 09:28

York Cycle Campaign will be taking part in a gathering of over 400 transport and active travel professionals from across the UK next week, hosted at York Barbican on July 2nd and 3rd.
Active City York 2025 is the annual summit of York-based government agency Active Travel England, which aims to increase the number of people walking, wheeling and cycling as part of their everyday lives.
The focus of the conference will be on how active travel can help transform communities throughout the country by creating more healthy, accessible and inclusive neighbourhoods.
York Cycle Campaign will be supporting the event by hosting a delegates’ reception, running pop up bike parking at the venue and organising a mass ride for allcomers through the streets of York to celebrate 25 years of the iconic Millennium Bridge. Local cyclists are being invited to join the mass ride at 18.15 on Wed 2nd July from the Barbican to proceed past York Minster and the station to Millennium Bridge.
Campaign Secretary Michael Driscoll said: “York has some lovely features for its many regular cyclists, but we still have a long way to go to have a real impact on the majority of people’s lives and to tackle the growing traffic congestion in this city. Our ride to the Millennium Bridge will celebrate the sort of changes that already make such a difference for everyday active travel in York.”
