We’re looking for a Communications Working Group Lead

Fri, 10/09/2026 - 13:04

The York Climate Commission is recruiting a volunteer to lead its new Communications Working Group, along with a small team of people to own individual workstreams.

The Commission brings together climate action from across the city, but not enough people know about it or how to get involved. In its first year, the new group will:

  • build a regular presence on LinkedIn and Instagram
  • send a bi-monthly newsletter to members
  • launch a new website by mid-2027
  • pilot a short podcast series

The Lead’s job is to organise people and get things out of the door. That means building the team, making sure every piece of work has an owner and a date, and reporting back to the Steering Group. You don’t need to be a communications professional – what matters is being good at getting things done with other people. The role comes with a seat on the Steering Group and support from the Co-Chairs.

Leading not quite for you? We’re also looking for people to own social media, the newsletter, the website or the podcast pilot. Each role comes with a clear brief and takes about 1–2 hours a week.

The closing date is 13 November 2026. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, and especially encourage people who are under-represented in environmental spaces.
